UAB’S Hill Student Center Grand Opening
Doster Construction Company recently completed the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s new $35 million Hill Student Center, which opened to students on December 7, 2015. The new facility replaces the Hill University Center (HUC) at the corner of University Boulevard and 14th Street.
The new 159,000-square foot, four-story student center consists of a food service and dining area (Panera Bread, Starbucks, Full Moon Bar-B-Que, and Mein Bowl), performance lounge, retail store, book store, outdoor patio dining, 280-seat theater, meeting rooms, office suites, 7,000 square foot multi-purpose room and an exterior third-floor balcony. The project also included the demolition and replacement of an existing parking lot, site paving, and landscaping.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to build a relationship with UAB,” says Jennifer Fisher, project manager at Doster Construction Company. “The institution is a cornerstone in the Birmingham community, and we are excited about delivering this state-of-the-art facility in our own city.”
UAB Hill Student Center adds to the list of other Doster projects in the Birmingham area, which includes Children’s of Alabama Hospital Renovations, Kirklin Clinic Renovations, Baptist Medical Center Princeton Renovations and Iron City Lofts.
The grand opening was held on January 20, 2016.
Doster Construction Company is the project’s general contractor with Birmingham’s Herrington Architects in partnership with Hastings & Chivetta as the architects of record.
