Caddell Celebrates Safety at Nuclear Power Training Facility Project

Building Alabama

Caddell recently marked two important safety milestones at the Navy’s $154 million Nuclear Training Facility project at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.  The Caddell team celebrated 600,000+ man hours with zero OHSA Recordables since November of 2016, and also officially logged more than a million total project man hours since beginning work in August 2014.   “This is a remarkable achievement for Caddell, the Navy, and our excellent subcontractors. We have all shared a relentless focus on safety and the results are clear. Congratulations to the entire team.”   Mac Caddell, Caddell Construction Executive Vice President.

Caddell is building a new Nuclear Power Training Complex for submarine personnel that will be state-of-the-art when completed.  This immense and exceptionally complex initiative involves multiple concurrent sites and has averaged 250-300 workers in the field.  Caddell customized the Navy’s “Good Catch” safety program to the specific safety challenges at this project.  “We have combined rigorous inspection with safety training, incentive programs, and strict accountability.  We are also carefully analyzing all “good catches” and “near misses” to keep fine-tuning our program.  It is working.”  Tim Stout, Caddell Corporate Safety Director.

The catered luncheon was attended by about 250 people including the Caddell on-site staff, subcontractors, representatives from the Navy and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, and a strong contingent from Caddell’s home office including Caddell President & CEO Eddie Stewart and Executive Vice President Mac Caddell.
