Turner Construction Company to Manage Work on New Jacksonville State University Fitness and Wellness Center
Turner Construction Company’s Huntsville office is managing the construction of a new Fitness and Wellness Center on the campus of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Construction is proceeding on an accelerated pace, with scheduled completion in January 2019.
Turner is providing construction management-at-risk services on the $32 million project, taking on all organizational responsibilities and project risk to ensure that it is delivered on time and within the guaranteed maximum price. Turner is collaborating on the project with architect Moody Nolan and civil engineer 4Site.
The 102,000-square-foot building, featuring a mostly glass exterior, will include four gymnasiums, a weight and fitness area, a wellness center, an elevated walking track, racquetball courts, a small leisure pool and whirlpool, a 40+ foot climbing wall, group exercise studios and locker rooms, as well as a lounge area where students can hang out between classes.
“Turner’s organizational expertise will be crucial both in managing this project’s short timeline and overcoming the logistical challenges of working on a busy college campus,” said Dr. Charles Lewis of the JSU Foundation. “We can’t wait to see the finished facility. It will be instrumental for improving the JSU student experience and in starting new student development programs.”
The facility will be built on the southeast corner of the Jacksonville State University campus, next to Kennamer Hall and Pelham Road.
“A project like this is the perfect showcase to demonstrate where Turner excels,” said project executive Lee Holland of Turner’s Huntsville office. “We have a long history of managing similarly complex, time-sensitive projects, and we look forward to delivering this leading-edge facility, which will serve JSU students for many years to come.”
