Doster VP Creates New Class at Jeff State

Workforce Development

When Cobey Everett, Doster Construction Company’s Vice President of Field Operations, saw a need for a field engineering class at local Jefferson State Community College, he quickly went into action. Everett, a 35-year veteran of the construction industry (20 of those with Doster), acts as a mentor to many within his company and felt compelled to share some of the knowledge he’s amassed in his long and successful career. “With a need for skilled construction workers on the rise, getting them introduced and involved in the industry early on is key to growing the workforce,” said Everett.

Everett worked with the Association of General Contractors of Alabama to source funding for the class, developed a class syllabus and sought out experienced teachers for the course. The first 12-month Field Engineering program, formed in partnership with Jeff State and the AGC of Alabama, will begin January 28, 2019. Topics covered will include Basic, Intermediate and Technical Mathematics, Quality Control – Building Layout & Surveying Technology, OSHA 30-Hour Safety; and NCCER Site Layout Level 1 & 2.
