Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood (GMC) is pleased to announce Freddie Lynn, Jr., Senior Vice President of Architecture in Montgomery, as the newest member of GMC’s board of directors, and Chris Engel, Executive Vice President of Architecture, as board chairman.

Lynn has been with GMC since 2003 and currently leads the firm’s architecture department in Montgomery. He has more than 30 years of professional experience and has gained significant recognition for exceptional design work, particularly for K-12 and higher education, municipal and commercial projects.

Lynn is engaged in the community through various civic and professional organizations. He served for more than 10 years as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 13 in Wetumpka, Ala., and currently serves as Council Commissioner for the Tukabatchee Area Council of BSA. Lynn is actively involved with the American Institute of Architects and is past president of the Montgomery Chapter. In addition, he is a member of the Association for Learning Environments, Alabama Association of School Boards, Alabama Community College Association, Alabama School Plant Managers Association and School Superintendents of Alabama. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Wetumpka.

Engel was appointed to the board of directors in 2018. He has more than 25 years of professional experience and has been with GMC since 2003. As Executive Vice President of Architecture, he manages the firm’s entire architectural practice, which includes oversight of more than 100 employees in offices throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Engel’s leadership extends beyond GMC to various roles in the community. He spent part of his early career teaching and mentoring Architecture students at Auburn and with its Center for Architecture and Urban Studies in Birmingham. He has also been named one of Birmingham Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40, and is a graduate of Leadership Birmingham.

Other board members include Cedric Campbell, Engineering Project Manager; Steve Cawood, Executive Vice President of Water Resources; Kevin Laird, Regional Vice President of South Carolina; Galen Thackston, Chief Operating Officer; and Lee Walters, Regional Vice President of Mobile.
