Rabren General Contractors Opens Birmingham Office

Building Alabama

Rabren General Contractors is well known as one of the largest privately held general contractors in the state of Alabama. Though the company started out small in Auburn in 2000, today it has achieved massive growth as it strives to achieve its goal of being the best provider of construction services in the southeast. Two years ago, as part of that mission, Rabren entered the Birmingham market and opened another office. “It started out as a small operation with a couple of projects we had here in Birmingham and in Tuscaloosa,” explained Rabren General Contractors Senior Project Manager Mitchell Weyandt. “That provided an opportunity for us to recruit new talent, get into the new market, meet new people and make connections. It has been a great opportunity for us to network and grow.”

Ascend

Thus far, Rabren’s Birmingham office has hit the ground running. The company has taken part in numerous projects across the Magic City, with many more upcoming. Currently, the general contractor is working on a project in Five Points, Ascend. Ascend is a 17-story high rise mixed-use student living community that will include 198 residential units that will accommodate 520 residents. The building amenities will include secure parking, a fitness center, spa, study rooms and lounges, as well as an outdoor amenity deck with fitness areas, fire pits and group seating. The concrete frame is expected to be topped out by the end of the year.

Rabren is also working on the 2121 Building interior renovation downtown, which is also a 17-story project. In Tuscaloosa, the company is working on a project about a block-and-a-half west of Bryant-Denny Stadium on the University of Alabama campus, Uncommon-Tuscaloosa. The project will be a seven-story development with 296 bedrooms in 132 units. The $28 million development is also scheduled to include 305 on-site parking spaces.

Uncommon

“Birmingham has always been my home and the place where I chose to raise my family,” Weyandt said. “With the short time (18 months) Rabren General Contractors has called Birmingham home, we are already involved in projects that are shaping the Birmingham skyline, and we look forward to serving this city for many years to come. I have been a part of ABC for over 14 years because I know the difference they make for our industry, and it makes me extremely proud to drive by our projects every day and contribute our part to an industry that provides so much for the state of Alabama.”
